Its August already!. I feel like the year is going so fast. Still so much to do, so little achieved. In the spirit of the new month i want to drop a few words to architects who for one reason or another is loosing motivation and is wanting to give up and quit. Architecture is difficult. Architecture is demanding. The long hours without control of your personal schedules, the low income despite the amount of time and energy put into this practice, the expensive and time-consuming educational and licensing requirements…..the list could go on and on. All these and more is enough to get your motivation to practice architecture crashing.  Continue reading

Its 3:30am and i had to actually force myself to get up and write this post. Its not about not having a topic to write about or because i am sleepy, its due to the lack of motivation. I simply lack motivation to do just about anything not just to blog. My motivation is so low, i practically have to drag myself to do things i have to do. What motivates you daily to do the things you do? Continue reading

Its a new month, not just any month but the last month of the first half of 2015. What have you achieved so far? How close are you to your goals for 2015? Have you followed your action plans accordingly? It is important that we review our lives and progress time after time, this actually helps you grow. When you are able to determine how far you have gone, you are able to know what your obstacles have been, what held you back and write down more action plans or adjust existing to help you move closer to your goals for 2015. Remember, these goals must not just be financial, or business goals…..it could also be spiritual goals, relationship goals etc. Are you where you planned to be? Continue reading

Do you ever think of participating in a design competition, be it local or international? Have you ever participated in any competitions? I know of some architects who have participated in design competitions but they are very few or probably i have not come across many architects who have participated in one. How many design competitions do we have in Nigeria? I know we have a lot of international competitions, what about locally? How often are they done? Continue reading

So this is a bit different from my usual motivational Mondays post. This is for aspiring Architects, those who intend to study Architecture and not sure what to expect. Someone actually inspired this post, his name is Bolaji. A very young boy who works with one of our brick layers on site. He comes very often on site and works hard, and if i see something not done rightly, its always him i call. He told me once that he wants to be an Architect like me, and just recently he sent me a message that he’s passed JAMB and he is going to study Architecture, but not sure what to expect since he really cant draw and doesn’t know much of maths. This is not the first time i am hearing this. Everybody expects that as an architect you should be able to draw well. We are Architects not Artist. I quite agree that knowing how to draw is a plus but not a necessity. Continue reading

Welcome back to work. Hope you had a good weekend, mine was stressful, thanks to the Mothers day celebration, t’was fun all the same. Today on Motivational Mondays, i bring you tips to increase your creativity. Without the constant applied heat of input or fuel, our creativity cools and reaction to our work goes from “Wow” to “Mmm, nice”. Those lukewarm compliments sounds soul-crushing. Continue reading

My post today is different from my usual Motivational Mondays where i usually dish out quotes from great architects/people to help motivate you for the week, that’s in case you are low in spirit and do need some form of motivation. Today i am giving you a post from Bob Borson’s Life of an Architect, Motivation – and why it’s important. I read it and i loved it, and it really did motivate me, so i decided to post it here on my blog to motivate you too. Read and get motivated. Continue reading
